M-Views Installation Instructions

Last Revision: February 5, 2003

1. (Optional) Download and install a media player on your iPAQ.
The recommended player is PocketTV.  Get it at:
http://www.mpegtv.com/wince/pockettv/

2. (Optional) Download and install an 802.11 scanning program on your iPAQ.
The recommended scanner is MiniStumbler.  Get it at:
http://www.netstumbler.com/

3. Register for an M-Views account.  Enter your desired username and
email address at the link below:

PLEASE NOTE: Your username must match the Device ID of your iPAQ.  Refer to
step 5 to check the current name of your device.  Most iPAQs have a default
Device ID of "POCKET_PC" (you must change this to a unique identifier that
    matches your M-Views account name).

You will receive a Welcome Email from the server containing your account
    password.

4. Download the installer at:

     [link removed]

5. Make sure your iPAQ is connected, with ActiveSync running, and run the
    installation program.

6. After installation, choose Start->Settings->System->About->Device ID
and make sure your Device name is the same as your M-Views account name.

7. Run the M-Views Config program from the Start menu, and enter your
password (as provided in the Welcome Email).  Next, enter the full path
to the executable of the media player that you wish to use (necessary if

you wish to play streaming media clips).  Also, enter the full path to the

executable of the 802.11 scanning program that you wish use (this will be

launched in the background to periodically update the Received Signal Strength

Indicator for each Access Point visible to your wireless network card; it is

necessary if you wish to use passive indoor location detection).  Finally, enter

your available maps in order of priority (for example, “ML  MIT” would load

    “ML.bmp” and “MIT.bmp”).

8. Run the M-Views program from the Start menu.

FINAL NOTES: Be sure to check your preferences under the “Settings” section in

M-Views.  Make sure your “Maps” field matches the value you entered into

the M-Views Config program (the map order must also be the same)!  Also,

changing your password within M-Views results in an immediate change on

the server; if it changes, the program will terminate with an “Incorrect

username/password” error.  You must then use the M-Views Config program

to enter the correct matching password in order for M-Views to function.

You can also enter your desired story subscriptions and team affiliations.

RECOMMENDATIONS: We suggest that you map the Record button on the

side of the iPAQ to launch M-Views automatically.  This allows for easy launch

    and termination of the program.
