to Mr. Armer

Dear Mr. Armer:

Thank you very much for your letter and your thoughtful paper, "Attitudes Toward Intelligent Machines."

The President's Science Advisory Committee has been discussing the possibility of establishing a panel in the field of computers, and I expect that we will do so. In general I agree with your remarks concerning the nature of computer problems and expect that we will spend most of our time looking at the intellectual problems associated with computers rather than the hardware problems.

Sincerely yours,
