DEW Line

May 24, 1961

Dear Bennie:

I would love to take a trip with you to the DEW Line, but more to have a couple of days together than to see the DEW Line, which is just an old gripe of mine with the Air Force. Jerrold Zacharias, Lloyd Berkner and I invented the DEW Line and bled to get it built, and I used to always get annoyed when colleagues of mine at MIT, including Gordon Brown, Dean of Engineering, and a variety of others who had nothing to do with it, were taken on VIP trips to see it. I always blamed Don Putt for the unpopularity of our threesome, and I guess after three or four drinks I unburdened my soul to him, so I wouldn't take this too seriously if I were you.

Incidentally, there might be some better place to visit (the Atlantic Missile Range) if we had a couple of days to spare sometime.

With very best regards,

Sincerely yours,

(signed Jerry)
